Dt. "Schlüsselwort", "Stichwort", "Schlagwort", "Suchbegriff". Bezeichnet Worte oder Wortkombinationen, die von Internet-Nutzern in Suchmaschinen eingegeben werden. Für die Suchmaschinenoptimierung sind die richtigen Keywords das zentrale Kriterium. Die wichtigste Aufgabe der Optimierung besteht darin, die richtigen Keywords richtig in Webseiten zu positionieren, damit diese Seiten von Internet-Nutzern in prominenten Positionen auf Suchmachinen-Ergebnisseiten gefunden werden.
